China's silk industry is developing rapidly, and silk production ranks first in the world, among which cocoon silk and silk satin can dominate production and price trends in the international market. The industries are mainly distributed in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Guangdong, Shandong, Anhui, and Sichuan. The synergy between industries in different regions needs to be improved. During the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, both the output value and sales scale of China's silk industry have achieved substantial growth. By accelerating structural adjustment and industrial upgrading, stabilizing the traditional export market, and actively opening up the domestic market, the connection between production and sales has continued to improve, the quality and efficiency of industry operations have improved significantly, the development has been stable, and the momentum has been good.

The demand for healthy, functional and personalized silk products continues to increase. It can be seen that the inherent advantages of silk fibers are gradually being re-recognized by modern people. The domestic silk market with a population of 1.3 billion has huge potential for development.

Although China's silk trade accounted for 80% of the world's total, the proportion of exports dropped from 3.4% in 1985 to 0.19% in 2011. This shows that China is a big silk country but not necessarily a silk power. China is the world's largest silk producer and exporter. China's raw silk production accounts for more than 70% of the world's total production, and its export volume accounts for more than 80% of the world's total trade. Increasing the technological content of silk products, developing new silk products, and satisfying the consumer demand of emerging consumers is an inevitable trend for the growth of international silk consumption in the future.

The development momentum of China's cocoon and silk industry is good. In 2010, the national mulberry orchard area reached 12.031 million mu, the output of silkworm cocoons was 649,000 tons, and the output of raw silk was 152,000 tons, an increase of 3.7%, 5.4% and 30.4% respectively over 2005.
